Course Overview

About the course

The 100hrs Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training Course is an onsite specialist programme at Andiappan Yoga in Chennai. It is designed for yoga practitioners, teachers, fitness professionals and birth-support professionals who want to understand how yoga can be adapted safely and respectfully during pregnancy and into the early postnatal period.

Students study the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy, trimester-wise practice adaptation, appropriate use of props, breath awareness, relaxation and class sequencing. The course combines guided theory, supervised practice and teaching methodology so participants can develop confidence in creating a safe and supportive prenatal yoga environment.

Who this course is for

  • Yoga teachers who want to add prenatal teaching skills to their work.
  • Serious yoga practitioners seeking specialist knowledge of pregnancy and postnatal wellbeing.
  • Fitness, wellness, antenatal and bodywork professionals who want a stronger foundation for working with pregnant students.
  • Pregnant practitioners who wish to understand safe prenatal yoga principles for their own journey.

What you will learn

You will learn to assess the needs of students at different stages of pregnancy; adapt asanas, breathing, relaxation and meditation practices; build practical prenatal sequences; recognise when to modify, pause or refer; and teach with clarity, care and professional responsibility.

Onsite learning in Chennai

Learning takes place in person with the Andiappan Yoga teaching team. The onsite format allows close observation, guided correction, practical exploration of modifications and discussion with fellow trainees in a focused learning environment.

Certification and next steps

Students who complete the programme requirements receive a 100-hour Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training certificate from Andiappan Yoga. This course provides specialist training in prenatal yoga; Yoga Alliance RPYT registration may require a prior recognised 200-hour yoga teacher training qualification. Our team can guide eligible graduates on the relevant registration pathway.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need prior prenatal yoga teaching experience to join?

No. The programme is designed for yoga teachers and serious practitioners who want to develop specialist prenatal yoga knowledge. A sincere commitment to safe practice and learning is essential.

Will I learn how to adapt yoga for different stages of pregnancy?

Yes. The course covers trimester-wise adaptation, the thoughtful use of props, suitable breathing and relaxation practices, and ways to respond to common changes in comfort, balance and energy.

Does this course include postnatal yoga?

The course introduces postnatal awareness and the transition into early motherhood. It is primarily a prenatal teacher-training programme, with guidance on how pregnancy learning informs responsible postnatal support.

If I complete your course, can I get registration with AYUSH Yoga Certification Board (YCB)?

To clarify your question about the AYUSH yoga certification process: you do not strictly need to complete a course at an AYUSH-registered school in order to obtain an AYUSH yoga certificate. After you complete the course you can apply directly for assessment through the Yoga Certification Board (YCB) under the Ministry of AYUSH, which means that self-study or training with any recognised institution is acceptable. Many of our students have completed their training with us, successfully registered with AYUSH, and are now working in both private and government organisations. After completing the course at our school, you may register online at https://www.yogaexam.in/ and apply for the relevant YCB examination; once you pass, your official government certificate will be available through your AYUSH profile portal. We would also encourage you not to choose a teacher training school based only on AYUSH eligibility. It is equally important to consider the depth of knowledge and experience of the teaching faculty, their qualifications, and their contribution to the development and authenticity of yoga. This will ensure that you receive a strong, comprehensive education that truly supports your long-term growth as a yoga professional.
